During a press conference on Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford hinted at his support for Olivia Chow’s mayoral campaign without explicitly endorsing her. Ford emphasized the strong relationship he shares with the current mayor, suggesting continued backing for her reelection bid. When asked about his stance on the upcoming municipal election, Ford’s response implied his inclination towards supporting the incumbent mayor.
Accompanied by the mayor and provincial ministers, Ford participated in an event announcing Ontario and Canada’s investment in the expansion of vaccine manufacturing by the global biopharmaceutical company Sanofi.
Contrary to his previous negative stance on Chow’s candidacy in the 2023 mayoral race, Ford’s recent comments suggest a more supportive tone. Despite past disagreements, including disputes over issues such as the province’s control of Billy Bishop Airport and the removal of Toronto bike lanes, Ford and Chow have collaborated on various matters and maintained a positive working relationship.
Chow faces competition from candidates like Brad Bradford and Chris Alexander in a crowded field of around 50 contenders vying for the mayoral position.
