Hamilton Forge advanced to the final of the Telus Canadian Championship by defeating Supra du Quebec 1-0 on Tuesday. Ben Paton scored for Hamilton in the 26th minute, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the semifinal.
Despite Supra having 12 shots compared to Hamilton’s eight and three shots on target to Forge’s two, Hamilton led in corner kicks with a 6-5 advantage. CF Montreal will face the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of their semifinal on Wednesday, after their first match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The victorious team from the Montreal versus Vancouver match will host Hamilton Forge in the final on October 21. The Telus Canadian Championship is the premier domestic knockout tournament in Canada, where clubs vie for the Voyageurs Cup and a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Since its inception in 2002, only MLS clubs Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto FC have claimed the Voyageurs Cup. The Whitecaps have clinched four consecutive titles, including a 4-2 victory over Vancouver FC in last year’s final.
