Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and the nearby region continued into the fifth day, with air raid sirens causing disturbances for millions of residents. The assaults on Monday resulted in four injuries and damage to various structures in the Kyiv area, according to regional Gov. Tymur Tkachenko. The use of jet engine-powered drones has been rampant in recent days, leading to casualties and destruction in the region. Notably, an attack on an ammunition depot on Friday resulted in 38 fatalities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that the ongoing drone attacks were intended to wear down the Ukrainian population. He revealed that Russia had launched nearly 1,500 drones at Ukraine in four days, with over half of them being jet-powered. Additionally, a Russian strike ignited a fire at a terminal operated by Nova Poshta courier service in the Odesa region.
In Kryvyi Rih, a jet-powered drone strike on an industrial facility left two individuals injured, as confirmed by a local official on Monday. Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated attacks on economic targets recently, with Russia targeting warehouses of key Ukrainian supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods stores. In retaliation, Ukraine also launched a drone attack on a logistics hub in Russia’s Yekaterinburg, according to the local governor.
Russia has heightened its air assaults, taking advantage of Ukraine’s limited capability to intercept ballistic missiles. The increased daytime drone activity has disrupted daily life in Kyiv, causing interruptions to transportation services and routines. Passengers faced delays as trains halted crossings over the Dnipro River during the alerts.
Among the affected individuals was Yulianna Oliynyk, a nurse and psychologist, who was stranded with her two sons on a metro platform while trying to reach a school before the academic year began. She recounted the challenges they faced due to the air raid alerts, considering spending the night in the metro to avoid disruptions. The ongoing situation has left many residents unsure of how to proceed amidst the turmoil.
