“Private Aircraft Crash in Remote Alaska: 8 On Board, Fate Unknown”

A private aircraft with eight individuals on board crashed in a remote area close to a radar facility in western Alaska on Thursday, as confirmed by a federal official. Clint Johnson, the head of the Alaska division of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, reported that the aircraft had two pilots and six passengers, but their condition was not immediately known.

The flight originated from Anchorage and is believed to have gone down early Thursday afternoon near Cape Newenham during its approach. Johnson cautioned that the details received at this point are preliminary.

Upon receiving a notification of an “aircraft incident” near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center promptly initiated a search and rescue operation. The center indicated that more information would be provided as it was gathered and declined to answer inquiries.
