The Canadian senior women’s basketball team dominated the Philippines with a commanding 85-38 victory at the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday. Yvonne Ejim led the scoring for Canada with 19 points, while Syla Swords contributed 15 points to the team’s success.
Canada took an early lead of 23-4 at Arena Astros and extended it to 46-11 by halftime. The tournament, featuring eight teams, will run until Sunday.
Having previously defeated Senegal 72-57 in their opening game on Monday, the Canadian team is set to face host Mexico in their upcoming match on Thursday. The ultimate winner of the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for February 2028.
