“Starbucks Rewards Program Updates: More Spending Required for Free Items”

Starbucks is making changes to its rewards program, requiring customers to spend more to earn free items. Customers earn ten stars for each £1 spent at Starbucks, which can be accumulated to redeem free drinks or food. Starting from September 3, the number of stars needed for a free filter coffee, americano, or hot tea is increasing from 130 to 150 stars, corresponding to a spend of £13 and £15, respectively.

The required stars for bakery items like croissants, cookies, and muffins are going up from 300 to 350, with the spending threshold moving from £30 to £35. To get a free handcrafted beverage such as lattes, mochas, and frappuccinos, customers will now need 600 stars instead of the previous 500, requiring a £60 spend.

For selected merchandise like mugs and cups, the star requirement is increasing from 1,000 to 1,150, resulting in a spend increase from £100 to £115. Starbucks communicated to customers via email that these changes are aimed at enhancing the overall value of the Starbucks Rewards program.

The criteria for achieving “Gold Level” membership, obtained when customers collect 2,500 stars equivalent to a £250 spend, remains unchanged. Gold Level members enjoy additional perks, including a free birthday drink, which can be tracked through the Starbucks app.

A Starbucks spokesperson mentioned that while the number of stars required for specific rewards is being adjusted from September 3, there are no changes to how stars are earned, existing balances, or Gold Member qualifications. Starbucks reassured members of ongoing investments in the program to introduce more benefits in the future.

In other news, Starbucks is introducing its viral Unicorn Frappuccino to the UK for a limited time. The colorful drink, known for its peach and mango flavors with a blue raspberry drizzle and whipped cream topped with pink and blue sprinkles, will be available from August 15 to 17, starting at £5.60 for a Tall size. Customers can also enjoy a cake pop alongside the Unicorn Frappuccino for £3.30, featuring a vanilla flavor with white chocolate coating and unicorn-themed decorations.
