Teenage girl tragically dies after collapsing during football final

A teenage girl, 16, passed away after collapsing during a football final match. Aoibheann Clarke, 16, received CPR on the field while participating in the Girls Minor Division 6 Shield Gaelic football final in Taghmon, Ireland. Despite immediate medical attention and being taken to the hospital by ambulance, she tragically succumbed to her condition shortly after. Eyewitnesses noted that the focus was initially on an on-field incident during extra time, with attention shifting to the girl’s health emergency at the opposite end of the pitch. Several individuals rushed to her aid, and she briefly regained consciousness after receiving chest compressions.

Her father, who was officiating as a linesman during the game, was present, as emergency services including paramedics, police, fire crews, and an air ambulance responded to the scene. The match was halted, and her teammates stayed at the club awaiting updates, only to learn of her passing later on. It was revealed that Aoibheann did not have any known underlying health issues.

In a statement, her club Taghmon Camross expressed gratitude for the swift and compassionate response during the emergency. They acknowledged the spectators, first responders, ambulance service, police, and fire crew for their professionalism and care. The club extended condolences to Aoibheann’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches, urging respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

Aoibheann was also a skilled football player, representing All Blacks AFC and Wexford FC. Prior to her untimely demise, she had contributed to Wexford FC’s victory in the Football Association of Ireland’s Women’s U19 Inter-League championship. Various sports organizations, including Wexford Camogie, mourned her passing, expressing condolences to her family, friends, and the entire community. They honored her memory and the impact she had both on and off the field.
