“Former Pop Star Accused of Child Sexual Abuse”

Former pop star Gary Glitter is accused of sexually abusing a young girl over a three-year period starting in 1978 when she was just eight years old, a court revealed. The alleged incidents took place at Glitter’s residence in Kensington, West London, where he reportedly provided the girl with chocolate before committing the acts.

Appearing via videolink from HMP Channings Wood, Devon, Glitter, 82, whose real name is Paul Gadd, attended Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He faces charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 during the years 1978 to 1981. During the brief hearing, dressed in a blue shirt and jeans with a cap covering his head and a goatee beard, Glitter initially struggled to hear questions due to his hearing impairment.

Glitter, who sat quietly and occasionally tapped his fingers on the table or adjusted his hearing aid, requested the volume be lowered to assist him in following the proceedings. The prosecutor informed the court that the complainant, now in her mid-50s, reported the alleged abuse to the police in January of the previous year. It was stated that Glitter befriended her and invited her to his home where the offenses were said to have occurred, involving the offering of chocolate over a period of time.
