“Man Charged with Murder of 9-Year-Old Girl in Arbroath”

A man aged 35 has appeared in court facing a murder charge after a nine-year-old girl was discovered injured in Arbroath. The girl, Minnie Merriman, hailing from West Yorkshire, was found at the Elliot industrial estate in the Angus town in the early hours of Monday while her family was camping nearby. Sadly, she passed away at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The accused, Christopher Rice, also from West Yorkshire, was charged with murder at Forfar Sheriff Court on Wednesday. Rice did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody for further examination. He is set to reappear in court within the next eight days.

Authorities have revealed that Minnie and the 35-year-old suspect were acquainted. Minnie’s family has issued a statement through Police Scotland, paying tribute to her and asking for privacy during this challenging time. It is reported that Minnie was camping with her family, who are receiving support from specialized officers.

Detective Inspector Mike Ness from Police Scotland’s major investigation team expressed condolences to all affected by the tragic events, particularly Minnie’s family. Police presence will be maintained in the area as investigations progress.
