Heavy rain is expected to sweep across many parts of the United Kingdom on Wednesday, as per forecasts from the UK’s Met Office. Weather maps from the service indicate that a low-pressure system will progress eastwards during the day, leading to showers that may escalate into storms in certain areas.
While temperatures soared to 29.6C in Wisley, Surrey, last Sunday, offering a pleasant and dry weekend for most regions, the upcoming week is predicted to be unsettled. Notably, a storm warning has already been issued for Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
Following this, widespread wet and gloomy conditions are anticipated across the nation as the low-pressure front from the west persists. Although showers are expected to be scattered and intermittent, the heaviest rainfall is forecasted for the Northwest of England and western Scotland.
The heaviest downpours are likely to occur in the evening, with a possibility of thunderstorms, especially in areas like Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Galloway, and Northumberland, as outlined by Metdesk forecasters. Additionally, showers are projected to reach as far south as Devon overnight on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from 12C to 23C, cooler in the northern regions. Thursday’s outlook remains unsettled, with rain anticipated in West Yorkshire and East Yorkshire, according to the Express.
The Met Office’s five-day forecast for the UK indicates heavy rainfall starting on Tuesday, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms. Patchy conditions are then expected to persist, particularly in the north, from Wednesday through to Friday.
Today, the southern regions are forecasted to remain mostly dry with sunny intervals and high temperatures. Conversely, northern and western areas may experience periods of rain, particularly in Scotland. Tonight, isolated thunderstorms could occur in southern England, while the rest of the country is likely to see cloudy conditions with rain showers and a risk of thunder.
Tuesday is expected to bring heavy rain to the north with a thunderstorm risk, alongside scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the south, accompanied by warm and humid conditions. Looking ahead to Wednesday through Friday, the north is likely to experience unsettled weather with showers or rain, while the south may see some showers initially, trending towards drier conditions by Thursday.
