A tragic incident unfolded in Turkey as a four-year-old boy, Muhammed Aras Temel, passed away after falling asleep in his family’s car during scorching 40C temperatures. The boy suffered a seizure while inside the vehicle, which had one door open, and was swiftly taken to the hospital. Despite the medical team’s efforts, Muhammed could not be saved. The heart-wrenching event occurred in the rural Ekinciler neighborhood of Mazıdağı district, Mardin, in southern Turkey on a Sunday.
Muhammed had entered the car and drifted off to sleep, prompting authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. His family realized he had been in the car for an extended period and found him unwell. They rushed him to Mazıdağı State Hospital, where it was confirmed he had experienced a seizure. Subsequently, Muhammed was transferred to Mardin Training and Research Hospital, where he tragically passed away. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, as reported by Turkish outlet Hurriyet.
This unfortunate incident coincided with Turkey experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to 40C in Mardin over the weekend. Last month, Antalya recorded a scorching 46.1C, the highest July temperature on record since 1930. Additionally, the country has been grappling with wildfires in various regions.
This distressing event follows other similar tragedies globally, including the deaths of children in cars during the summer heatwave. In a separate incident in southern France, four-year-old Kassim Benouali and his two-year-old brother Sadek were found unresponsive in a car outside their grandmother’s home in Carpentras, leading to their untimely demise. Amid tributes pouring in, the boys’ grandmother, Fatiha, described the family’s devastation and mentioned the efforts made to keep the children cool amidst the scorching temperatures.
