A tragic incident occurred last night on the A40 between the Abergwili and PC World roundabouts near Carmarthen in South Wales. Multiple vehicles, including a police car responding to the scene, collided with a pedestrian, resulting in a fatal outcome.
Initially, officers received a safety concern report regarding a pedestrian on the carriageway. Subsequent reports indicated that several vehicles had already struck the pedestrian before law enforcement arrived. Regrettably, a marked police car also collided with the pedestrian upon reaching the accident site.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and efforts are underway to identify them and notify their next of kin. The Carmarthen, Whitland, and St Clears Police, part of Dyfed-Powys Police, have announced the closure of the A40 stretch between the two roundabouts for an extended period while investigations continue.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Following the involvement of a police car in the multi-vehicle crash, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) as per statutory requirements for independent oversight. The police force refrained from further comments pending the completion of the IOPC assessment.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident, especially motorists with dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision, to come forward. Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing to witnesses to provide any relevant details to assist in the investigation.
