Jack Shepherd, known as the speedboat killer, has admitted to a violent assault on a woman, which involved using barbecue tongs to attack her. The incidents included striking the woman in her 50s with the tongs, pinning her down, punching her, and damaging her keys. These actions led to the 38-year-old man being sent back to prison.
Shepherd was initially sentenced to 10 years in 2018 for manslaughter in connection with the death of 24-year-old Charlotte Brown in a speedboat crash during a date in central London. He fled his trial at the Old Bailey while on the run in Georgia but was later extradited back to the UK to serve his sentence.
Appearing at Isleworth Crown Court via videolink from HMP Swaleside in Kent, Shepherd pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH) and criminal damage. He denied charges of intentional suffocation and controlling and coercive behavior, with those charges being left on file. The assaults on the victim included pinning her down and punching her in February 2025, attacking her with barbecue tongs in June 2025, and damaging her keys in the same month.
Following his previous conviction for Ms. Brown’s death, Shepherd was released on license in January 2024 but was recalled to prison in September of the same year due to allegations of violence against a woman. He is scheduled for sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court on September 4.
Shepherd had been released in 2024 after serving less than six years before being sent back to jail for breaching his license conditions by contacting his alleged victim and violating his curfew. Details of his recall to prison were made public in a recent parole board report.
The tragic incident involving Ms. Brown occurred in December 2015 when she was thrown from Shepherd’s speedboat on the River Thames after it hit a submerged tree trunk. Her father, Graham, expressed on Good Morning Britain in 2019 that closure over his daughter’s death would be elusive due to Shepherd’s absence during the trial and subsequent escape.
