Samsung has introduced its latest range of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially posing a challenge for Apple. The tech giant from Korea revealed three new devices, led by the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8.
In contrast to previous Fold models, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 boasts a unique “passport-style” design, which appears different when closed but offers a more functional layout when unfolded. The device features a spacious 7.6-inch display that resembles a compact tablet, catering to activities like streaming movies and gaming on the move.
The launch is significant as Apple is anticipated to unveil its first foldable iPhone later this year, with rumors hinting at a similar design choice. Samsung’s early introduction of this design could give it an edge over its rival.
Apart from the design, Samsung is also making strides in other aspects. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the thinnest and lightest Fold model yet, weighing only 180g. It includes an enhanced hinge for improved durability and longevity. The device’s larger display incorporates Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for better visibility outdoors.
Equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 4,800mAh battery, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers swift charging capabilities. Its dual-camera system and Gorilla Glass protection enhance the device’s photography capabilities and durability.
Samsung has integrated its latest Galaxy AI tools into the Galaxy Z Fold 8, providing users with advanced photo editing features, productivity enhancements, and improved search functions. The device is priced starting from £1,699, making it a competitive choice compared to the anticipated higher cost of Apple’s foldable iPhone.
In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which features a similar appearance to its predecessor but upgrades to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a significant camera improvement. The Fold 8 Ultra boasts a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera for enhanced photography and 8K video recording capabilities. It also introduces a new Flex Titanium hinge and a redesigned display structure for increased strength and usability.
With a larger 5,000mAh battery offering extended power and quick charging, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is priced from £1,899. Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design while enhancing features like a thinner profile, a stronger aluminium hinge, improved performance, and upgraded camera functionalities.
