According to authorities, a man has passed away, and another man is in a severe condition following an incident in the sea at North Tyneside.
The Northumbria Police responded to a distress call concerning two individuals in the water at Cullercoats beach around 6:30 pm on Sunday.
Both men were rescued from the water, but unfortunately, one of them, a man in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man, also in his twenties, was rushed to the hospital and is currently in serious but stable condition, as confirmed by Northumbria Police.
The families of both men have been notified and are receiving support from the authorities.
Witnesses described the sea conditions as challenging, with waves reaching three to four feet, on the day the men encountered difficulties, as reported by Chronicle Live.
Julie Anne, a regular beach visitor, witnessed the extensive rescue operation with multiple individuals deploying a rescue buoy into the water.
Chief Inspector Simon Wotton of Northumbria Police expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the support for those affected and urging respect for their privacy.
The RNLI spokesperson confirmed their involvement in the rescue operation following a coastguard request on the evening of July 19th.
