UK Weather: Heatwave to Return with Temperatures Climbing to 36C

Forecasters are predicting a drop in temperatures this weekend following the UK’s third heatwave of 2026, but weather models indicate a return to mid to high-30s temperatures in the near future.

The Met Office anticipates that peak temperatures will hover around 30C or 31C until Saturday, then decrease significantly on Sunday to around 25C in the south and 22C in the north.

Dry and settled conditions are expected to persist through the weekend with increasing cloud cover, although temperatures will decrease towards the seasonal average, remaining pleasant in the sunshine.

According to the GFS weather model, temperatures could climb back up to 36C the following weekend, with highs of 34C and 35C in various regions on Saturday and potential highs of 36C in eastern England on Sunday.

Temperature anomaly maps show that the UK is forecasted to experience temperatures well above the seasonal average, with nine English counties likely to see temperatures of 35C or higher later in the month.

The Met Office also foresees temperatures staying above average towards the end of July, with an elevated risk of thunderstorms. The agency’s forecast for July 19 to July 28 suggests a greater chance of rain, showers, or thunderstorms compared to earlier in the month, while temperatures are expected to remain higher than average during this period.
