“Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of 11-Year-Old Cyclist”

An 11-year-old boy tragically passed away after being hit by traffic while attempting to cross the road to reach his mother on the opposite side. Seth Fulton, 11, was cycling along Nottingham Road in Chaddesden, Derby, on April 17 when the incident occurred. He was struck by a bus and then thrown into the path of a VW Polo, resulting in fatal injuries that led to his death later that day at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Following an inquest conducted by Susan Evans, the coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, it was determined that it was unsafe for Seth to cross the road at that point. Evans noted that both the driver of the VW Polo and the bus did not have enough time to avoid the collision. The official cause of Seth’s death was identified as a traumatic head injury resulting from a road traffic collision.

The tragic event unfolded as Seth was cycling on the pavement and spotted his mother on the other side. Despite the road not being safe to cross, he attempted to do so. As he made his way across the road, he was struck first by the VW Polo and then by the bus, with neither driver able to prevent the collision.

In a heartfelt statement released by Derbyshire Police after Seth’s passing, his parents described him as a vibrant and adventurous child who had a deep love for life, wildlife, and outdoor activities. They emphasized his caring nature, inquisitive personality, and his passion for skateboarding and BMX riding. Seth’s family highlighted his sense of humor, love for dancing, and his strong, unforgettable personality, expressing how deeply he was cherished by all who knew him.
