The family of a 19-year-old kayaker who is believed to have tragically passed away off the Northumberland coast has expressed their sorrow and paid homage to their beloved son.
Michael Henry was kayaking with a friend near Boulmer in Northumberland on July 7 when their kayak overturned. While his companion made it to a buoy and was rescued by the coastguard, extensive search efforts for Mr. Henry by Northumbria Police yielded no results, leading to the conclusion of the operation.
In a heartfelt statement, his family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received. They described Michael as a cherished son, brother, grandson, nephew, teammate, and friend, highlighting his passion for sports and the outdoors. They shared that Michael had plans to travel this summer and commence university studies in the upcoming academic year, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Chief Inspector Jon Caisley conveyed his condolences to Michael’s family and friends, acknowledging the devastating impact of the news. Despite thorough search operations, Michael has not been located and is believed to have lost his life at sea.
