A tragic incident occurred when a crew member of the Regal Princess cruise ship fell overboard near Cancun. The ship had departed from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades on a seven-day voyage on Saturday. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, went missing just before 6 am on Monday off the coast of Mexico.
Following the alert from Princess Cruises, a search and rescue operation was initiated. Despite initial reports of a missing crew member, it was later confirmed that the person had passed away. Passengers onboard were informed that a crew member was unaccounted for as the ship was en route to Cozumel, a Mexican island.
Passenger David Jimenez shared that the ship immediately began search efforts, aided by another cruise ship and vessels from Mexican maritime authorities. Despite extensive searching for over eight hours, the cruise line sadly confirmed the crew member’s demise without disclosing the individual’s identity.
Throughout the search, passengers received hourly updates and access to counseling services for support. Princess Cruises expressed condolences to the crew member’s family and friends and offered grief support services to those affected by the tragic event.
As the ship continued its journey with the next stop scheduled in Belize, passenger Pam Holland Boyd shared updates on Facebook, confirming the crew member’s passing after a prolonged search. Regal Princess also extended counseling services to anyone needing assistance in coping with the loss.
