Advanced weather forecasting models indicate that the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 30C for most of the month, may soon give way to cooler conditions. The Met Office projects that temperatures above 30C will persist in southern UK regions until at least Friday, with northern areas expecting temperatures above 28C during the same period.
However, forecasts suggest a temperature decrease over the weekend. The ECMWF weather model predicts morning temperatures dropping as low as 6C in parts of Scotland on Sunday. Northern England may see temperatures as low as 7C, while the warmest morning temperatures, around 15C-16C, are anticipated in the southwest.
By midday on Sunday, the ECMWF model shows temperatures peaking at 17C in southern England, a significant drop from recent scorching conditions. Wales is expected to reach 15C, with 13C in the Midlands and Northern Ireland. Temperature anomaly maps for Sunday indicate that most of the UK, excluding the southwest, will experience temperatures below the seasonal average.
The ECMWF model highlights that on Sunday morning, some counties in Scotland and northern England could see temperatures below 10C. The Met Office forecasts a gradual decline in temperatures from Saturday as strong breezes move to northern regions. Starting from Sunday, conditions are expected to be less hot compared to recent days.
Looking ahead to July 19-28, the Met Office predicts predominantly dry weather across most of the UK, with high pressure likely to dominate. The source region of the air from the North Atlantic will bring somewhat cooler temperatures compared to recent days, with any showers more likely in the far north.
