Home security camera footage captured the intense moment when police apprehended a suspect in the tragic murder case of former Member of Parliament Ann Widdecombe, who lived approximately 300 miles away from the incident.
The 78-year-old former government minister and television personality was discovered deceased at her residence in Haytor on Dartmoor, sustaining severe injuries around 11:40 am on Thursday. Subsequently, a 28-year-old Caucasian British male was taken into custody on suspicion of her murder on Saturday, with video evidence depicting his arrest.
A video shared by Sky News depicted the shirtless individual being detained by armed officers at a residence in South Yorkshire. The handcuffed suspect was escorted through a garden and away from the property in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, at roughly 9 pm. The individual has since been re-arrested on suspicion of involvement in acts of terrorism.
Counter-terrorism authorities have assumed control of the investigation into the death of the veteran politician. Although Widdecombe’s passing was officially announced on Friday, July 10, initial reports did not disclose the nature of her demise.
Later on, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the initiation of a murder inquiry. According to authorities, the attack on Miss Widdecombe occurred on Wednesday around 12:30 pm.
Initially, a 26-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of the murder but was subsequently released as he was no longer considered a suspect. The head of UK counter-terrorism policing, Laurence Taylor, revealed that new details and evidence emerged during the murder investigation.
Mr. Taylor stated, “Following the progress made by Devon and Cornwall Police, we have acquired fresh information and evidence prompting Counter Terrorism Policing to lead the inquiry. We are pursuing various leads to determine the motive behind this assault.”
