A man suspected of wielding a crossbow was shot by police in South Wales. The incident occurred late on Friday at an address in St Edward Street, Newport, after reports of threatening behavior.
A representative from Gwent Police confirmed that a 21-year-old Newport resident, seen with a weapon, was shot by officers and subsequently taken to the hospital. The individual is now in stable condition.
According to the spokesperson, law enforcement, including trained firearms officers, responded to the situation promptly upon noticing the man with the crossbow.
Deputy Chief Constable Nicholas McLain assured the public that there is no ongoing danger from the incident, emphasizing that it is isolated and that no further suspects are being sought.
While occurrences involving firearms and weapons are uncommon in Gwent, the police take all such reports seriously and handle them professionally based on the available risk assessment.
