A tragic incident at a prominent bonfire in Belfast has resulted in the death of a man identified locally as Warren “AKA” Lyttle. The man, in his 40s, fell from the Braniel’s Eleventh Night bonfire on Friday night and was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed the fatality, stating that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland has been notified.
In response to the tragedy, the Braniel Bonfire Committee, Braniel Loyal Flute Band, and Braniel Community Group expressed their sorrow and announced that despite the loss, the bonfire would proceed as scheduled at the request of the victim’s family. They urged attendees to observe a minute’s silence before the lighting of the bonfire as a tribute to Warren’s memory.
Additionally, a spokesperson for Dundela Social Club conveyed their condolences, describing the victim as a familiar figure who will be deeply missed by many associated with the club.
