In a recent social media post, former President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that the United States is prepared to launch a sustained bombing campaign against the country if any attempts are made on his life. Trump asserted that he has already given orders to completely destroy Iran in retaliation for any threats on his safety.
The deteriorating relationship between the US and Iran escalated further as Trump announced the end of the ceasefire between the two nations, leading to fresh military strikes on Tehran. This announcement coincided with public calls in Iran for Trump’s assassination, prominently displayed during the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed earlier in the year by joint US-Israeli military action.
Reports indicate that Iran has been openly seeking the assassination of President Trump since 2020, following his authorization of the strike that targeted Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.
Trump’s response to the perceived threat was swift, with a statement on social media declaring that the US military is prepared to launch a prolonged bombing campaign against Iran if necessary. The President emphasized that the military is ready to take action for up to a year, with the possibility of extension, to ensure the complete destruction of Iran.
Despite reports of a potential assassination plot, Trump dismissed the claims, stating that he has been a top target for Iran for some time. He also mentioned that he has provided instructions for a severe retaliation in case of a successful assassination attempt.
The ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran was suspended following missile attacks on oil and gas vessels in the Strait of Hormuz by Iran. The US retaliated by cancelling waivers on Iranian oil sanctions and conducting strikes on numerous Iranian targets.
In response to the heightened tensions, Trump reportedly altered his travel plans as a security measure, opting to use a different aircraft after attending a NATO summit in Turkey. During the summit, he openly acknowledged Iran’s hostility towards him and expressed concerns about his safety.
Trump’s remarks at the summit reflected his awareness of the ongoing threats against him, highlighting the volatile nature of the situation between the US and Iran.
