A visitor in China defied the odds by surviving a harrowing incident after spending five hours trapped in a crevice on the Jiaozi Cliff in Shanxi Province.
Ren Mou found herself lodged in the crevice, shouting for help, after falling 180 feet down the cliff. She had been alone at the site, witnessing the sunrise, when she accidentally tumbled over a 330-foot ledge due to wet conditions and poor visibility.
Fortunately, a man heard her cries and alerted the authorities, leading to a rescue operation. Drones equipped with infrared imaging were employed to locate her exact position. Rescue teams had to secure ropes to nearby trees and abseil down to reach her, as the cliff lacked suitable anchor points.
After enduring five hours in the crevice, Ren was successfully rescued. She was disoriented, physically drained, and sustained several non-life-threatening injuries. Currently, she is receiving medical care in the hospital.
The Captain of the Shanxi Blue Sky Rescue Team mentioned that this was the first time in his 16-year career that he had encountered such a challenging rescue mission. Visitors have been cautioned to avoid staying near cliff edges at night and slippery areas and to adhere to safety warnings.
In a separate incident, a tourist fell 130 feet off a cliff at Huaying Mountain in Guang’an, China, while taking a selfie.
