A young woman, aged 22, has tragically passed away in a skydiving incident at Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire Police responded to the incident at Langar Airfield, which now houses Skydive Langar, on Sunday at 12.13pm. The woman was discovered in a nearby field and pronounced dead at the scene, with no other injuries reported.
The woman’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers, while a report is being prepared for the coroner. Detective Inspector Rachel Mayfield expressed condolences, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information about the incident to contact 101, referencing incident 306 of July 5. Skydive Langar confirmed the incident involving an experienced skydiver at their center, expressing deep sorrow and offering condolences to the affected family, friends, and community.
The organization emphasized cooperation with the police and requested privacy during this difficult time. Emergency services were present at the scene, focusing on a field near the airfield for investigation purposes. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their involvement in the incident but did not disclose further details.
Established in 1942 as an RAF base during World War II, Langar Airfield now hosts Skydive Langar, the UK’s busiest civilian skydiving center since 1977. With a fleet of three turbine-powered aircraft, including two Cessna Grand Caravans and one standard Cessna Caravan, Skydive Langar conducts over 50,000 jumps annually.
