At least eight individuals, including four children, sustained injuries from gunfire during a mass shooting incident in Brooklyn.

The New York Police Department swiftly responded to gunshots reported in Coney Island late last night amidst Fourth of July festivities.

Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of West 31st Street around 10:37 pm on Saturday, where a crowd had gathered to watch fireworks.

Witnesses observed detectives rushing to the scene outside Seapark Apartments, carrying young victims to safety, following the sound of gunfire, according to the New York Post.

While the exact number of assailants and the motive behind the shooting remain unclear, local residents indicated that such violence is not uncommon in the area.

The victims include a 37-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, and four boys aged 14, 12, 7, and 6, with the youngest boy sustaining a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

All eight injured individuals were promptly transported to hospitals, where the 21-year-old woman, who suffered a chest gunshot, remains in critical condition.

The NYPD confirmed that emergency medical services transported all victims to nearby medical facilities, with seven individuals reported in stable condition, while the 21-year-old remains critical.
