Dog Rescued from Rubble in Venezuela

In a heartwarming display of rescue efforts, a dog trapped under rubble for five days in Caraballeda, Venezuela, was saved by a search and rescue team from El Salvador. The team responded to the sound of barking coming from the collapsed building in the worst-hit region of La Guaira.

In a touching moment captured on video, the dog was carefully pulled out from the debris by one of the rescuers, prompting immediate affection from the grateful pup towards its rescuer. The crowd erupted in applause as a vet provided care and nourishment to the hungry dog.

The owner, Gabriela Alves, expressed disbelief and gratitude, stating, “I thought he wasn’t going to survive… So it’s a miracle that he is alive.” This miraculous rescue is just one of the many stories of survival emerging from the aftermath of the twin earthquakes that struck over a week ago.

In another instance of perseverance, rescue workers successfully extricated a 43-year-old security guard, Hernán Alberto Gil Flores, from the collapsed basement of a shopping center in La Guaira after a 100-hour operation. Gil Flores, covered in dust, was rescued from beneath the rubble where he had been trapped since June 24.

Despite challenges posed by unstable structures, heavy rain, and aftershocks, the rescue team tirelessly worked to dig a tunnel to reach Gil Flores. These heroic efforts come amid criticisms of the government’s response to the disaster, with survivors recounting the lack of promised life-saving equipment during the crucial rescue period.

Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, defended the government’s immediate activation of response efforts, denouncing attempts to politicize the tragedy. The death toll from the earthquakes stands at 2,295, with expectations of further casualties as search and rescue operations continue.
