A Dublin man, David Ruttledge, was shocked to discover he had renal cancer during a routine blood test while preparing for a major fitness race. Last October, his GP noticed abnormal kidney markers and ordered further testing, which confirmed elevated results. Subsequently, an ultrasound revealed a mass on his left kidney while he was participating in a fitness challenge with family members.
Following the diagnosis, David underwent various scans and tests, leading to a partial nephrectomy on March 3, where surgeons successfully removed a large tumor from his left kidney while preserving part of the organ. The 43-year-old expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his family and friends throughout his medical journey.
To mark his recovery and raise awareness, David will participate in another fitness challenge this weekend. He emphasized the symbolic importance of this event beyond physical fitness, aiming to inspire others facing similar health battles. Donations towards his cause have already reached almost €8,000 (approximately £7,000), and contributions can be made through the provided link.
