“Nigel Farage Faces Backlash for £270K Gold Sponsorship Deal”

Reform leader Nigel Farage received an additional £270,000, nearly three times his parliamentary salary, for his endorsement of gold bullion. This substantial payment, labeled as a “brand ambassador” role for Direct Bullion, was disclosed in Mr. Farage’s recent update to the MPs’ register of financial interests. It stands as the largest single payment he has received for work beyond his duties as the MP for Clacton, where he earns a basic salary of just over £98,000 annually.

The payment from Direct Bullion was declared by the Reform UK leader for approximately four hours of work per month over a three-month period. Previous declarations show that Mr. Farage also received payments of £91,200 and £135,000 from the same company in February 2025 and November of the preceding year, respectively. Additionally, he earned £18,402 for around six hours of work presenting on GB News. A spokesperson for Mr. Farage clarified that he serves as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion, as previously reported.

Recent reports from Mirror revealed that despite positioning himself as a supporter of the working class, Nigel Farage owns four properties, with his partner possessing another in his constituency. These include a historic property in the Surrey countryside purchased by Mr. Farage in May 2024 and a seaside residence bought through his company, Thorn in the Side Ltd, for £499,995 in 2020.

Mr. Farage remains under scrutiny regarding a £5 million gift from Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne. He has defended not declaring the gift, received before his 2024 parliamentary bid, arguing it was unrelated to politics. The standards commissioner is investigating whether the gift should have been disclosed.

Labour chair Anna Turley criticized Mr. Farage for prioritizing personal financial gains over his parliamentary responsibilities. She emphasized that his actions contradict his portrayal as a champion of ordinary citizens, highlighting his high earnings from gold sales promotions. Turley called for Farage to focus on benefiting his constituents rather than profiting from such endeavors.

In response to inquiries about the gift, Mr. Farage maintained that it is a private matter and refused to disclose how it was utilized. He defended his right to spend the gift as he sees fit, dismissing public interest in the matter. During interviews, he reiterated his stance that the gift was unconditional and could be spent on personal preferences, including luxury items or gambling activities.
