An English supporter has gone missing while en route to the United States for the World Cup, prompting his family to issue a plea for assistance in locating him.
Michael Hewitt, also known as “Little Mick” among his acquaintances, departed from Leeds on June 20 to fly across the Atlantic to Boston to witness the Three Lions in action. However, communication with him abruptly ceased during a layover in Barcelona, Spain.
According to his family, Mr. Hewitt never reached his intended destination in America. His brother, Mike Wakefield, disclosed that the last communication received from Michael was during his stopover in Barcelona, as detailed by NeedToKnow.
Since June 21, Mr. Hewitt’s phone has been inactive, and there has been no activity on his social media profiles. Mr. Wakefield expressed concern, stating, “On Saturday, June 20, Mick departed Leeds bound for Boston, USA, to attend one of England’s World Cup group matches, transiting through Barcelona.”
“He seems not to have arrived in Boston, and our last contact with him was from Barcelona in the early hours of Sunday, June 21. Subsequently, his phone has been inactive, and he has not shared any updates on social media. Naturally, we are now extremely anxious for his well-being.”
The family has reported Mr. Hewitt missing, and a case has been registered with the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office under reference number 02470905. Interpol has also been notified as relatives endeavor to ascertain whether he proceeded beyond Spain.
Authorities are conducting an investigation under case reference 20260628/1183.
Mr. Wakefield further stated, “Familiar to many as ‘Little Mick,’ especially within the Leeds United community, he is a recognizable figure to numerous Whites fans worldwide, having supported the club both at home and away for many years.”
“If anyone has seen Mick since Sunday, June 21, or has had any contact with him subsequently, please inform us or the FCDO. Thank you.”
