“UK Braces for Potential Record-Breaking Heatwave”

The UK is set to potentially experience another heatwave, with weather models indicating a chance for the hottest day ever recorded in the country. According to Met Office forecaster Neil Armstrong, the upcoming week is expected to be pleasant, with temperatures forecasted to range mostly in the low to mid-20s. Following last week’s record-breaking heatwave that brought the warmest June day at 37.7C, the GFS weather model suggests the possibility of breaking more records next week, with data indicating a potential temperature surge to 41C.

The GFS model projections for next Monday indicate highs of 35C to 36C across southern, eastern, and central England, reaching 33C in Yorkshire and 31C in South Wales. Subsequently, temperatures could escalate to unprecedented levels next Tuesday, with highs of 40C and 41C expected from Yorkshire to London and the east of the country. A slight cooldown is predicted for Wednesday, with temperatures peaking at 35C in the southeast, as per the GFS model.

Temperature anomaly maps for next Tuesday show the UK highlighted in red and black, signifying temperatures surpassing the seasonal average. The GFS model suggests that up to 17 counties in England could experience temperatures of 40C or higher. The Met Office has mentioned an increasing likelihood of a return to heatwave conditions next week, although the probability of extreme high temperatures, similar to those seen last week, remains low for now.

Tony Wisson from the Met Office stated that temperatures could reach the high 20s in parts of England this weekend, possibly hitting 30C in the southeast and ranging from mid to high 20s in Wales. While a return to heatwave conditions seems probable, the chances of extreme high temperatures or intense humidity like the previous week are currently minimal.
