Fatal Shooting at California World Cup Fan Zone

A shooting incident at a popular World Cup fan zone in California has resulted in one fatality and another individual facing critical injuries, according to authorities.

The tragic event took place on Sunday at San Pedro Square in the San Francisco Bay Area, where large crowds had gathered for spirited football watch parties, as confirmed by the police.

Despite no World Cup matches being shown at the time of the incident, with the last game ending earlier in the day, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, stated San Jose police on a social media platform.

Law enforcement officials are treating the case as a homicide and have closed off several streets in the vicinity for investigation purposes.

The Bay Area has already hosted five World Cup matches, including a recent knockout game between Bosnia and the United States.

Following the shooting, a significant police presence was observed, with multiple law enforcement vehicles seen and an injured person being swiftly taken away on a stretcher, as reported by Reuters.

The area was cordoned off, and most establishments in the vicinity, including bars, were shut down in response to the incident.

An unnamed security guard recounted witnessing the injured individual in distress, noting visible blood and police engaging with witnesses at the scene.
