Emma Raducanu has made the decision to withdraw from Wimbledon this year due to a stress fracture. The British No 1 shared that she had been dealing with a leg injury but had hoped to participate in the tournament, which was set to start soon. However, Raducanu confirmed on the eve of the championships that she would not be able to compete.
In an Instagram post, Raducanu expressed her disappointment, stating that despite her efforts to overcome the injury, a recent scan revealed the development of a stress fracture, leading to medical advice to refrain from pushing through. She acknowledged the significance of playing in Wimbledon in front of a home crowd and thanked her supporters for their unwavering encouragement during this challenging time.
Previously seeded 30th, Raducanu was slated to play Antonia Ruzic in her Wimbledon opener on Court 1. Despite a strong performance at Queen’s Club recently, where she reached the final but was defeated by Donna Vekic, Raducanu now faces sitting out of her home Grand Slam due to this setback.
