“Amber Alert: Heatwave Warning Extended to Tomorrow”

The Met Office has prolonged an amber weather alert for intense heat until tomorrow.

The national meteorological agency is advising residents in the warned regions to refrain from outdoor workouts between 11am and 3pm. The alert covers eastern England and the south-east, now extending until 9am on Sunday.

People residing in these areas are cautioned about potential health risks due to the persisting hot and muggy conditions, especially for those sensitive to extreme heat.

The general populace is also at risk of health issues like sunburn, heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue), and other heat-related ailments, according to the forecaster.

Adaptations in daily routines may be necessary as per the alert, with possible travel disruptions and welfare concerns for individuals stuck in the heat on roads, trains, and planes. There is an increased chance of power failures and service disruptions as equipment may malfunction in the high temperatures.

The Met Office mentioned that very hot and humid conditions will persist in eastern and southeastern England, though slightly cooler than recent days. Temperatures are still expected to exceed 30°C widely, peaking at around 32 to 33°C in London or East Anglia. Overnight temperatures on Saturday into Sunday are unlikely to drop below the high teens Celsius for most areas.

To stay safe, follow these simple steps to reduce heat-related risks: stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, refrain from outdoor activities between 11am and 3pm, especially when the sun is strongest, and close curtains in sun-facing rooms. If going out, carry water, stay shaded, apply sunscreen, and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

In the East Midlands, East of England, and London & South East England regions, residents are urged to be vigilant and take necessary precautions against the ongoing heatwave.
