“Royal Family’s 2025-2026 Travel Expenses Exceed £3 Million”

The Royal Family’s travel expenses exceeded £3 million last year, with £160,733 allocated to just four trips on the Royal Train. Prince of Wales led the list of costly royal journeys, with his official visit to Saudi Arabia in February 2026 costing £130,106. This surpassed the £126,946 spent on the King and Queen’s state visit to Italy in April 2025. Additionally, Prince William’s tour of Brazil for the Earthshot Awards and COP summit incurred expenses of £79,000.

The annual financial report of the royal family, covering March 2025 to March 2026, discloses all official travel expenses exceeding £20,000. A total of 37 journeys were documented during this period, with 13 involving the King, primarily within the UK. Notably, the royal train will be discontinued by 2027 to save costs, as announced by Buckingham Palace.

The report also highlights other significant trips, such as the King’s visit to the Vatican City alongside the Queen, resulting in expenses of £75,371. The core funding for the monarchy is set to increase to £100 million annually, nearly doubling over three years. This boost will address maintenance backlogs, enhance cyber security, and promote energy efficiency within royal residences.
