At least three students have tragically lost their lives in the Philippines due to a school shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City. The incident, which occurred around 9 am local time, resulted in five students being injured, with three fatalities confirmed.
During class hours, the sound of gunshots rang out, causing fear and chaos among both students and teachers. Authorities have identified two individuals as persons of interest, including a 15-year-old student from the school.
The Police Regional Office-8 has reassured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend both suspects. Additional police presence has been deployed in the area to ensure the safety of students, school staff, parents, and the local community.
In a statement, the police urged the public to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with the authorities by providing any helpful details for the ongoing investigation. One suspect was captured at the scene, while the other was apprehended after a pursuit operation, during which the firearm allegedly used in the attack was seized.
The suspects, one of whom is a minor classified as a Child In Conflict with the Law residing in Barangay San Jose, are currently undergoing questioning by the police. The shooting incident is believed to have stemmed from reported bullying experienced by the suspects.
