At Paternoster House care home in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, pensioners watched the memorable match where England defeated West Germany 4-2. Natalie Murray, the activity co-ordinator, noted that the residents showed positive engagement and relaxation while watching the 1966 game. The experience of revisiting a special moment from their past created a sense of comfort and familiarity for the residents, enhancing their well-being.
Among those enjoying the reminiscing session was 87-year-old former footballer Brian Davis. As he watched a replay of the game featuring England legends like Sir Geoff Hurst, Brian was filled with fond recollections. Brian shared a personal anecdote about how he went to great lengths to watch the match back in 1966, emphasizing its significance to him.
