“Twin’s Desperate Fundraiser Cut Short by Sister’s Tragic Death”

A tragic incident has unfolded as a young woman passed away shortly after her identical twin sister initiated a desperate fundraising effort to save her life. Caitlin Leggett, aged 24, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia last year and was recently informed that she might have only six months left to live. Her sister, Grace, launched a fundraiser to gather funds for potential life-saving treatment abroad, amassing over £120,000 in donations. Grace also left her job as a complex care personal assistant in Bristol to be closer to their family in Cardiff.

Sadly, just two weeks following the fundraising campaign, Caitlin experienced a sudden and severe brain hemorrhage, leading to multiple strokes and a rapid deterioration in her health. An update shared on the fundraising platform by her family conveyed the heartbreaking news of Caitlin’s declining condition.

Earlier this month, Caitlin, a resident of Cardiff, expressed her determination to continue fighting for more time. She spoke about her aspirations and desire to live an ordinary life with her loved ones, especially her twin sister, emphasizing the importance of shared experiences and aging together.

Caitlin’s battle with cancer began when she noticed a persistent rash that did not respond to various over-the-counter treatments. After a GP ordered blood tests in April 2025, suspecting a viral infection initially, she was swiftly referred to cancer specialists who diagnosed her with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Despite graduating from the University of Bristol with plans to join the Army as an intelligence officer, Caitlin underwent extensive chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant following her diagnosis. While she achieved complete remission in December, the cancer resurfaced in May 2026, with no curative treatments available within the NHS.

Grace, who sacrificed her job to support her sister, launched the Save Caitlin fundraiser with a goal of raising £500,000 to facilitate overseas medical interventions. On the fundraising page, Grace emphasized Caitlin’s hope for a brighter future and the critical need for financial support to access potentially life-saving treatments abroad.
