“Attempted Murder Charges Filed in Blyth Hit-and-Run”

Two individuals, a man, and a teenage boy are facing charges of attempted murder following an incident in a Northumberland town that left a woman critically injured. The event occurred on Keelmans Terrace in Blyth around 1.25 am last Friday, where two women in their 30s were hit by a vehicle. One woman sustained severe injuries and is currently in a critical condition in the hospital, while the other suffered minor injuries.

The suspects, identified as Corey Charters, 20, and an unnamed 17-year-old boy, were charged with attempted murder on Wednesday afternoon in connection with the incident near the junction with Beaumont Street. The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene and was later discovered burned out in the High Pitt area of Cramlington.

Three individuals were arrested by the authorities in the course of their investigation. While Charters and the 17-year-old boy have been formally charged, a 21-year-old man previously arrested has been released on bail. In addition to the attempted murder charge, Charters, who does not have a fixed address, is also facing charges related to driving without a valid license and insurance. Both Charters and the teenage boy are scheduled to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court in North Shields on Thursday morning.

Northumbria Police is seeking information, including doorbell, CCTV, or dashcam footage, to aid in the ongoing investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry of the force’s Major Investigation Team emphasized that while progress has been made with the charges, the investigation is still ongoing. He urged anyone with details about a dark-colored 2007 Honda SUV seen in the area between 1 am and 1.30 am on the day of the incident to come forward.

Further investigations revealed that the victims were involved in an earlier altercation with the individuals in the same vehicle near Stephen Street. The vehicle was later found burnt out in Cramlington. The police cautioned against speculating on the case given the live charges and stressed the importance of respecting the legal process.

Individuals with relevant information or footage are encouraged to visit the Northumbria Police public portal or contact the authorities through social media or by calling 101, quoting reference number NP-20260612-0056.
