American rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to two decades in prison after admitting to raping a woman at his residence in Louisiana in 2022. During his sentencing, the victim detailed how the rapper, whose real name is Michael Tyler, physically assaulted her and sexually assaulted her against her will, leading her to request the maximum punishment from the judge.
Addressing the court, Tyler acknowledged the severity of his actions, stating that if he indeed committed those acts, he deserved the maximum sentence. Known for his hit song ‘Shake Ya Ass’ released in 2000, Mystikal received a 20-year sentence for third-degree rape.
Initially facing charges of first-degree rape and false imprisonment when first arrested in 2022, Mystikal later pleaded guilty to reduced charges of third-degree rape. Despite attempting to retract his guilty plea, citing emotional distress and lack of consideration of consequences, his guilty plea stood.
During the trial, the victim, whose identity was protected, recounted how Mystikal prevented her from leaving his premises, proceeded to sexually assault her, and then coerced her to transfer him money through CashApp before permitting her to depart.
Although Mystikal, aged 55, could have faced a life sentence for the initial charges which included first-degree rape, criminal property damage, domestic abuse battery, robbery, and false imprisonment, his sentence was limited to 20 years following his guilty plea.
Mystikal, whose album ‘Let’s Get Ready’ produced by Pharrell Williams reached the top of the Billboard charts in 2000, has a history of sexual assault allegations. He served a six-year sentence in 2004 for assaulting his hairstylist and a three-month jail term in 2012 for domestic abuse charges. In 2017, he was accused of rape and kidnapping, but the charges were later dismissed.
