“Over 100 Apprehended in London Protest Crackdown”

More than a hundred individuals have been apprehended by law enforcement following a demonstration outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London on suspicion of endorsing Palestine Action. A total of 117 people were taken into custody after protesters congregated outside the court, where judges affirmed the legitimacy of designating the organization as a terrorist entity.

During the protest, demonstrators were observed being removed by law enforcement officials, with some holding placards stating “I support Palestine Action.” Simultaneously, in a nearby courtroom, five Court of Appeal judges validated the decision to outlaw the group, which took effect on July 5 the previous year, deeming it a justified and proportional intervention on individuals’ freedom of expression.

Earlier in February, a panel of three High Court judges had deemed the former Home Secretary Yvette Cooper’s ban on Palestine Action unlawful following a legal challenge from the group’s co-founder, Huda Ammori. However, this ruling was overturned today by the Court of Appeal judges.

The prohibition declares that being a member of or endorsing the direct action group constitutes a criminal offense punishable by a maximum of 14 years’ imprisonment. Despite the February ruling, the ban has remained in effect as the Home Office pursued an appeal, which was successful today.

One of the individuals escorted or carried away by the police was an elderly woman wearing dark blue scrubs with a sign reading “retired doctor” displayed on her chest. In response to the arrests, law enforcement emphasized that expressing support for the organization continues to be illegal, and individuals breaking the law will be detained.

Moreover, two additional individuals were arrested by City of London Police colleagues during a demonstration outside the Old Bailey. Since the organization was outlawed, the Metropolitan Police has detained over 3,000 individuals suspected of endorsing Palestine Action.
