A high-speed pursuit in Camden, Arkansas, ended with a dramatic incident where a four-month-old infant was thrown from an SUV but miraculously sustained only minor injuries. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Tyrice Fletcher, was arrested following the crash after allegedly attempting to evade the authorities by driving at speeds exceeding 100mph.
Reports indicate that the SUV, with four children under six years old inside, crashed and overturned as Fletcher tried to escape the police. Despite the baby being ejected from the vehicle during the collision, the other three children were safely rescued from the wreckage.
Arkansas State Police had initially tried to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation, but Fletcher refused to comply and accelerated, leading the officers on a dangerous chase. The pursuit culminated in the SUV losing control, careening through a yard, hitting a pole, and flipping over.
All the children, including the infant, were taken to Ouachita County Medical Center by ambulance for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. The mother of the children was promptly informed and arrived at the hospital.
Fletcher is currently in custody at the Ouachita County Detention Center, facing various charges such as fleeing, endangering the welfare of minors, and additional firearm and drug-related offenses. Captain Rick Neill emphasized in a statement that the suspect’s reckless actions put innocent lives at risk and highlighted that the danger that unfolded was a direct consequence of Fletcher’s decisions.
