Experts Dismiss Farage’s Claims of White Police Bias

Experts have dismissed Nigel Farage’s assertion that white individuals are now facing unequal treatment in policing, citing data that contradicts his claim. The leader of Reform UK has faced criticism for his inflammatory remarks following the murder of Henry Nowak, with his party pledging to discard police race action plans aimed at enhancing policing for Black individuals if they come to power.

Justice Secretary David Lammy refuted the notion of a two-tier policing system in the UK, labeling it a misrepresentation. This comes after the US State Department, under Donald Trump, commented on the issue, denouncing two-tier policing as a sign of societal regression.

Citing Ministry of Justice statistics, experts highlighted the over-representation of minority ethnic groups in the criminal justice system. A report released by the MOJ in November revealed disparities in the treatment of offenders from Black and other ethnic backgrounds compared to white offenders, particularly in terms of imprisonment and sentencing for drug-related offenses.

Home Office figures indicated that force was used at a significantly higher rate against Black suspects compared to white suspects in the year leading to March 2025. Dr. Shabna Begum, CEO of anti-racism organization Runnymede Trust, criticized Farage for perpetuating false narratives, emphasizing the disproportionate harm experienced by people of color, especially Black individuals, in encounters with law enforcement.

According to MOJ data, white defendants received shorter custodial sentences on average compared to Asian, Black, and mixed-race offenders. Black offenders also served a larger proportion of their original sentences compared to individuals from other ethnic groups.

Campaign group Inquest’s 2023 report revealed that Black individuals were seven times more likely to die following police contact than White individuals. The tragic incident involving Henry Nowak, who died after being stabbed by Vickrum Digwa, prompted scrutiny of police actions and raised questions about the impact of anti-racism guidelines on policing responses.

Farage’s statements regarding a perceived bias against white individuals by the police sparked controversy, with critics accusing him of fueling racial tensions. Samira Ali, national organizer for Stand Up to Racism, condemned Farage’s rhetoric as dangerous and divisive, emphasizing the ongoing disparities faced by Black and Asian communities in policing.

In response to Farage’s claims, Lammy rejected the notion of a two-tier policing system in the UK, stating that his interactions with law enforcement did not support such a characterization. The US State Department also weighed in on the issue, condemning ideological conditioning and advocating against two-tiered policing practices as signs of societal decline.
