Donald Trump, the US president approaching his 80th birthday, was observed appearing to nod off during an event in the Oval Office, triggering discussions regarding his fitness to hold office. The incident occurred during an announcement of a significant financial boost to the coal industry when video clips surfaced online showing Trump with his eyes closed as Energy Secretary Chris Wright spoke loudly.
Following this event, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he had never witnessed Trump falling asleep and remarked on Trump’s alleged lack of sleep being a concern. However, during a congressional hearing, Rep Ted Lieu presented videos suggesting Trump had slept during Cabinet meetings and a Memorial Day ceremony. Rubio dismissed these claims as absurd, leading to a heated exchange between the two.
Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari voiced her concerns about Trump’s repeated episodes of falling asleep in the Oval Office, calling for the implementation of the 25th Amendment to remove him from office due to perceived health issues. This comes after ongoing speculation about Trump’s health, fueled by past images showing physical anomalies and recent reports of health concerns.
Trump, on the other hand, recently announced that his latest health check-up at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center had yielded perfect results. While the White House delayed the release of the official report, Trump’s doctor, US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, affirmed that the president remains in excellent health with strong overall physical function.
Despite the positive report, some prominent doctors have questioned its validity, citing possible omissions and a potentially overly favorable portrayal of Trump’s health. Texas vascular surgeon William Shutze expressed skepticism, suggesting that the report may present a biased narrative.
