“Footage Reveals Extensive Damage on USS Ford After Fire”

New Video Shows Extent of Damage on US Aircraft Carrier USS Gerald R Ford After Fire Incident

Recently released video footage unveils the severe damage suffered by the USS Gerald R Ford, the largest aircraft carrier in the world, following a fire incident that occurred during an Iran attack. Contrary to initial assurances by the US Navy in March that the situation was under control, the new footage obtained by CNN paints a different picture.

The video displays the aftermath of the blaze, with charred metal remnants and twisted bunks where sailors used to rest. Wires hang from the ceiling, and ash and debris cover the floor, indicating the extent of destruction caused by the fire.

A sailor who fought the fire recalled the intensity of the situation, expressing his initial fear of losing the ship. Despite efforts to contain the blaze, the sailor mentioned that the onboard fire suppression system should have been more effective in extinguishing the flames.

The US Navy’s public statement downplaying the impact of the fire on the carrier’s operations has also come under scrutiny. It took the crew approximately 30 hours to fully extinguish the fire and address potential reignition risks. The incident resulted in around 600 sailors losing access to their sleeping quarters due to the damage sustained.

Following the fire, the USS Ford faced operational challenges and had to undergo repairs in Greece before resuming its duties. Despite the setback, the aircraft carrier played a crucial role in various military operations, including strikes against Iran and facing threats from enemy missiles and drones.

Despite the difficulties faced during the deployment, the crew’s resilience and training were highlighted by experts as instrumental in the vessel’s swift return to service post-fire incident. The USS Ford, commissioned in 2017, is renowned for its advanced technology, including an electronic catapult system for launching aircraft.

Looking ahead, the USS Ford will undergo an extensive maintenance period, potentially keeping it out of service for up to a year. In the meantime, alternative arrangements may be necessary to bridge the operational gap left by the carrier’s absence at sea.
