“Hawaiian Airlines Ends Free Meals on Flights”

Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled a new policy that will affect passengers starting in July, as complimentary meals will no longer be provided during flights.

Previously, Hawaiian Airlines offered free meals for passengers traveling between Hawaii and the US mainland. However, the airline recently announced that complimentary meals will no longer be automatically included for passengers.

Travelers will now need to purchase pre-ordered meals from a new menu, available for selection between two weeks before the flight and up to 20 hours before departure. The prices for these meals are anticipated to range from approximately $10 to $17 per meal.

Nevertheless, for flights between Honolulu and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Main Cabin passengers will still receive complimentary meals.

The newly curated menu features dishes by Maui-based chef Sheldon Simeon, showcasing elevated local favorites such as crispy mochiko chicken with garlic noodles, barbecue teriyaki chicken bento, and corned beef hash with eggs. Passengers will also have the chance to savor signature dishes inspired by Simeon’s restaurants, including K mayo, teriyaki sauce, and banana bread syrup.

Alisa Onishi, Managing Director of Hawai‘i Marketing at Hawaiian Airlines, emphasized the airline’s dedication to authentic Hawaiian hospitality amidst this change. The airline will continue to offer complimentary beverages, local snacks, and a special treat at the end of the flight to maintain its unique service.

The airline stated, “By transitioning to a pre-order model, we aim to provide a diverse menu that aligns with our guests’ current dining preferences beyond a standard meal.”

Furthermore, Business Class and First Class menus are undergoing revisions, with complimentary snacks to remain available on flights.
