New chilling video footage has emerged showing the tragic events leading to the death of Henry Nowak, who was fatally stabbed and left to die after being handcuffed. The incident took place in Southampton last December when Nowak, aged 18, was murdered by Vickrum Digwa using a ceremonial Sikh dagger.
Digwa, 23, was found guilty of the murder and sentenced to life in prison for a minimum of 21 years. The distressing video shows Nowak pleading for help and struggling to breathe as he lay dying. The footage, captured by a Hampshire Police officer’s body camera, depicts the aftermath of the stabbing, with Nowak sitting against a house, supported by Digwa’s father while Digwa falsely claimed to have been racially abused by Nowak.
The court was informed that Digwa, who did not have his turban on when the police arrived, likely removed it earlier. Nowak can be heard stating he had been stabbed, but officers seemed dismissive of his claims. Despite Nowak’s pleas for help and stating he couldn’t breathe, he was handcuffed by the officers and eventually taken into custody. The court revealed that Nowak suffered eight stab wounds inflicted by Digwa using an eight-inch blade.
Following Digwa’s sentencing, Nowak’s father criticized the police’s treatment of his son, calling it inhumane and degrading. He expressed disappointment in the stark contrast between how his son was handled by authorities compared to the treatment afforded to his murderer. Digwa was given more consideration and respect during his arrest, with no handcuffs used, while Nowak was left handcuffed and neglected despite his critical condition.
