A three-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a devastating house fire in Australia when his father bravely tried to rescue him. The incident occurred in Melbourne’s outer southwest, where Jordan Dashwood passed away on Monday morning. The toddler was found inside the burning home on Newbury Street in Werribee by emergency services just after midnight.
His father, Jeremy Dashwood, 40, sustained severe upper and lower body injuries while attempting to re-enter the house through a smashed window to save his son. Jordan’s 11-year-old brother managed to escape by jumping out of a window.
The family’s two older siblings were not present during the fire. The house was engulfed in flames, leaving Jordan’s grandmother and mother in shock at the scene on Monday morning.
Witnesses recounted hearing a loud bang and witnessing massive flames engulfing the property. Despite efforts from locals like Thanh Zannit, who tried to help with a garden hose, the fire was uncontrollable. Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene.
Senior Constable Paul Hogan confirmed the tragic news of a resident’s death in the fire, with another resident hospitalized due to severe injuries. The fire was contained by around 1.15 am, and authorities are not treating it as suspicious.
