“97-Year-Old Thrill-Seeker Set to Break Wing Walking Record”

A 97-year-old woman is poised to break her own Guinness World Record as the oldest female wing walker. Betty Bromage, a thrill-seeker residing in a retirement home in Cheltenham, Gloucs, took up wing walking at the age of 87. Since then, she has set records and challenged herself with various daring activities.

Betty’s interest in wing walking was sparked by a Crunchie bar advert featuring a woman on top of a plane. Feeling bored with the lack of chores and shopping in her retirement home at 87, she decided to give wing walking a try. Her adventurous spirit led her to perform more complex maneuvers, such as a figure of eight, during her wing walks.

After her husband passed away, Betty embarked on her first wing walk in 2016. Since then, she has completed multiple wing walks, including one to commemorate her 90th birthday during the Covid pandemic. Additionally, she has taken on other hair-raising challenges like zip-lining and abseiling.

In 2022, at the age of 93, Betty achieved the Guinness World Record for the oldest female wing walker by performing daring stunts in support of a charity. Despite facing a recent stroke, she remains determined to continue her wing walking feats, with her sixth walk scheduled for August to raise funds for the stroke unit at Cheltenham General Hospital.

The CEO of Pegasus Homes, which operates Betty’s care home, praised her as an inspiration and symbol of ageless adventure. Betty’s perseverance and zest for life embody the spirit of embracing new experiences regardless of age. The community eagerly anticipates supporting her in her upcoming record-breaking endeavor.
